ART BOOKS

 ART BOOKS
"A film about about self-expression and self-publishing. An exploration of purpose, determination and the creative psyche."

BOOK STAND, my favorite art book stand, needs a little help (and love) for an avant-garde documentary that they are shooting. It will capture artists and creatives thoughts on processes, work and books as the film travels around the world to interview and film. I already want to see this, don't you? Let's make it happen!

Please check out their little film about it here and give a little shout out about it to your friends and family too!

MONOCHROMATIC WILDFLOWERS + BOOKS + SYNONYM JOURNAL

monochromatic wildflowers indeed!

the beautiful Henbane watercolor + Love Totem drawing by artist Lauren Spencer King

kittens and kale!
Mallory! That dress! That hair! That spirit!

lovely Leigh Patterson of synonym journal

captivating us as usual, Dana!
sweetest little boy showing us his moon fish collection

lovely, lovely photographer Stella Berkofsky
What a weekend we had over at the L.A. Art Book Fair at MoCA Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo! Leigh and I were in charge of the BOOK STAND table all weekend long and it was so much fun! The theme that Claire so cleverly created for BOOK STAND was one color : pink. We got to:

• meet the loveliest bunch of people
• part stacks of books aside to set up a temporary flower shop + sell monochromatic pink flowers (!)
• share all of our favorite artists / photographs / books / journals that fell under the pink umbrella
• drink strawberry-silver-milk from Moon Juice
• stare at Mark Borthwick's 'all the best bird`s feel her' poster over at Jane & Jeremy stand
• spotting Yolandi Visser of Die Antwoord  nearby getting a book signed
• dress in shades of blush and pink all in the name of pink
• witness a very special moon fish collection
• got to see/touch base with so many friends that we hadn't seen in a long while
• got to enjoy (finally) some rain as we were tearing down Sunday night

Overall it was a success! More than anything I enjoyed getting to spend time with Leigh Patterson, who I don't often get to see because she lives in Austin, Texas. Important to mention too: it was so nice meeting all of you who so kindly stopped by to introduce yourselves, to say hello, or simply talk flowers with me. Gosh I was so stoked! Still am, actually...

Maggie Harrsen

purchase Solidago from BOOK STAND!

I admire artist / photographer / healer Maggie Harrsen's work very much. It's simplicity. The beauty in the every day. The magic and power of mother nature. It reminds me to slow down and take the time to note and breathe in all the natural beauty that surrounds me / you / us every day. Very much like a meditation for my eyes and senses. Maggie, I am such a fan.

PLANTS: OUR SILENT GUARDIANS

I am sooo excited to share this with you today and to invite you to come out next Thursday, March 21st for our opening ceremony to help us celebrate the TIGERS TO LILIES installation + collaboration: PLANTS: OUR SILENT GUARDIANS

I have been asked to be the artist-in-residence for one month at The Standard Hollywood and I sincerely couldn't be more honored or psyched! As is my nature I knew that I wanted to collaborate with my friends: the amazing artists Lauren Spencer King + Claire Cottrell! Together the three of us have come up with what I can confidently say will be a staggeringly beautiful installation with of course a lot of wild and a lot of depth. You. Have. To. Come!

Furthermore, just to sprinkle all this goodness with even more fun, Claire's BOOKSTAND will have a physical space in the hotel lobby as a pop-up for the duration of the installation 3/21 - 4/21! If you know anything about Claire you know that this will be a most special space with such treasures to read, workshops to attend and lectures to be heard all while sipping on herb-infused refreshments + snacks. So seriously, how exciting is Spring looking? I'll do my best to give you as much info about all of this as it unfolds, OK?

Thank you Jenni B. + The Standard!

L.A. Book Fair @ Geffen Contemporary (MOCA)

untitled, the southwest by ye rin mok
heneban, watercolors by lauren king
flowers picked and gathered, by jaime rugh

Claire Cottrell's BOOK STAND has a booth at the L.A. Book Fair @ Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (Little Tokyo) and I can attest that hers will be a shining reflection of the magic that conjures up when you choose your collaborators/artists carefully. Oh yeah, and her theme is PLANTS AND WILDFLOWERS! Besides her much coveted collection of books, journals and zines, she will also be selling textiles, prints, bookmarks and celebrating the work of these 3 brilliant artists:

Ye Rin Mok and her booklet The Southwest
Lauren Spencer King and her beautiful Heneban watercolor prints (I know that I'm a bit biased here because Lauren is my dear friend but so what; I've already seen some of these prints and they are hauntingly beautiful)
Jaime Rugh's new book Backyard Wildflowers (I'm elated for Jaime because I've been following her for quite some time and she is über talented, period. Her wildflowers are exceptional, but so is her spirit of living and anything else that she touches).

So come! More info here!

Opening Night: Thursday, January 31, 6–9pm
Friday, February 1, 11-5pm
Saturday, February 2, 11am–6pm
Sunday, February 3, 12pm–6pm
