Crowns and such

Floral crowns are so in right now. And who cares what anybody else thinks cause they're so great! I'm just going to start wearing one every day and make one for V.v. too so that she can wear hers around her neck! HA! Are you loving them as much as I am right now?

Tepidarium del Roster

This greenhouse!
(in Florence, Italy of course)

Saturday, June 23, 2012

I recently photographed a friend of mine who is getting married this fall. I was inspired by the California light and made a wreath for her to wear simply because I love wreath crowns. The whole experience turned out so lovely and we had such a fun time. Isn't that what's this is all about anyway?

Britt Browne

Britt Browne is an exceptioanlly talented and lovely artist, teacher, printmaker, and human being all around. Look at these stunning cards that she made. I was able to get my hands on these prints; they make me so happy every time I look their way. I feel like you too would feel the same. So check her out! She is the indigo queen.

Kokedama: String Garden

I made some really sweet kokedama's this weekend to sell at Shelter Half. If you have a small apartment or want an easy-to-take-care of lil' plant friend or simply love moss, you need one! Hang one from your window (preferably not full sun all day) and watch your space get a little dose of magic. Go and get yours (or email me about an upcoming workshop to make your own)!

Refinery29 + TIGERS to LILIES

Refinery29 did a little piece about florists in L.A. and Tigers to Lilies was included. They covered some other really cool floral stylists too. How very cool. Have a quick read here.

 Thank you so kindly, Refinery29!

Caitlin Wylde

Caitlin Wylde's work makes me feel, for lack of a better word description, like home. She has such a spirit in her manner with which she not only creates her work but is apparent in all the other things that she does; where she places objects, what she collects and picks up, what she sews and marries, and how she makes them work together. Her art is textured, layered with pieces from nature and earth; intricate, intertwined, sun-washed and warm. She seems to carry this spirit with her--it meanders through her studio, her art, gardens, and spills into her beautiful home (in Echo Park). When I met her I felt like I was meeting a person from a different era: what I would expect say if I met Patti Smith or maybe Joni Mitchell. She is naturally radiant. Truly inspiring.

This Thursday 6/13 from 7-9pm her art is being exhibited in the amazing space of Shelter Half. I'm going to to be there and hope that you too can make it out.

Sam Falls

Sam Falls

Love this image for 2 reasons:
1.) I love ferns
2.) It inspires me to push my color rudiments outside of the
box come Fall when I get to take advanced color printing.
Sooo cool

(Thank you Lauren for introducing me to Sam's work)

Cleome + Pop-Up!

Do you know about the cleome flower? I didn't know about them until I saw them in the fields two weeks ago. I was mesmerized! They are both tough and delicate looking, full yet airy. I am always amazed at what can thrive under the intensity of the Southern California desert sun, and just when I get to the farm and expect things to be shriveled up and yellow, I walk into a field full of blooming and thriving cleomes! You can just go ahead and move over, peony and hydrangea...

I picked a bunch of cleomes for my Pop-Up tomorrow:
1549 Echo Park Ave.
10-6

Come and get some of these wild beauties--your home needs some!

XO!

a flower with love

I may or may not have a slight obsession with moss.

Have you seen/read this book: a flower with love by Bruno Munari. It is so great and has a whole section dedicated to moss gardens in bowls...! Yup. Get your copy here.

(Thank you Jessica for letting me borrow your book)

Anna May Wong

I really like these images of the stunning Anna May Wong. Her bold bangs, perfectly arched eyebrows and porcelain skin are immaculate. I really like the play between the textures of the fabrics to that of the branches and how this creates textual layers within the photos and adds depth. These are beautiful portraits indeed.

(Thank you Jessica for sharing these with me)*

Spencer Studio + TIGERS to LILIES!

The insanely talented and oh so pretty  Lauren of  SPENCER STUDIO and I had a clever little idea: what if we both collaborated on a project together? We work so well ensemble and we inspire one another and so we did: I dropped off little arrangements of wildflowers that I loved on her doorstep for about a week and if she, upon finding them, found inspiration to draw or paint, would. Well lo and behold, look at these beautiful works that she created. We were both so pleased that we made them into postcards! We are selling them for $2 a card and today I will be setting up a little wildflower installation at Shelter Half. I'll be selling some there and also have books and readings on plants + wildflowers to browse through. Stop by from 12-5pm! Or email me if you would like to purchase some of these first limited edition cards.

*HAPPY SUNDAY*
