Flowers for a Japanese Ceremony

This past Sunday I was asked to create some flowers for a very special Japanese wedding ceremony. I think that you know that I do not do weddings often. Every once in a while though something incredibly special comes my way. This was for my friend and collaborator, Kumiko. I was honored to be able to contribute to her special day with some wildflower creations. Kumiko was truly one radiant bride, full of bursting happiness and grace.

Thank you Kumiko + Chikara. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, health and love.

Home and Away / RUTH ASAWA

Succulents / 1965
Ruth Asawa
Very much looking forward to seeing the Home and Away / The Printed Works of Ruth Asawa  exhibit at the Norton Simon Museum! Such powerful work, to say the very least. Let me know if you go too and what you think.

"When you put a seed in the ground, it doesn't stop growing after eight hours. It keeps going every minute that it's in the earth. We, too, need to keep growing every moment of every day that we are on this earth." -- Ruth Asawa

And we're back from Virginia! Would you like to see a little bit of my mom's wedding? I wasn't going to share a lot because I feel that it was a very intimate and heartfelt experience and sometimes I like to keep those for myself. Do you feel like that too sometimes? How much do we share with others via social media vs. how much we keep for our own hearts and treasures? I always go back and forth.

In the meantime, here are some outtakes of photos that I arranged and styled and shot for the Gardenista feature I was so stoked to do this past spring. Simplicity is always best for me. Can you feel the breeze in the last shot?

shower time!

If you are living anywhere in Southern California, don't forget to water your plants right now! With this excessive heat they (we!) all could use some extra hydration. Do keep the drought in mind - water your plants if possible in a tub or shower all together, so that extra run off runs through to the other plants. You'll knock out your watering in one go, the plants will benefit from hanging out with one another, and you'll save some water. If possible, please try not to exceed watering to more than once a week. You can always email me for more information  ;)

Yuna Floral Regalia

Yuna: what a beauty!

While going through the TIGERS to LILIES archives, I happened on these images. What a day! Creating a floral headpiece for the lovely Yuna was one of the highlights of my year last year.
