I was really excited (and honored) to have been asked by (brilliant, wonderful, superb) Leigh Patterson to participate for the August portion of her newest personal project, The Moon Lists. I have decided to make Moon Lists for Elijah and myself every month now. A time-worthy project to sit down and reflect upon the time/moments passed from one full moon to the next.

Artist Amelia Giller for TIGERS to LILIES W 2016

Such a special way to commence this new year with one of artist/illustrator Amelia Giller's drawings for TIGERS to LILIES! I am so honored. The life cycle of an anemone, from sprout to it's last petal. This is a very special piece for me because it marks the beginning of something that I have wanted to do for a very long time: have seasonal postcards with different creatives showing me (you) what flowers/nature represents for them. I ask the question FLOWERS ARE...and they fill in the rest. They will be printed on 100% cotton cards and will have a limited run.

FLOWERS ARE...the heart in my drawings.

Happy New Year dear readers and friends! Thank you for being so patient and supportive this past year. I am always so touched with your kind words and time. May this year be a healthy, wild, and loving year for you. May the wildflowers of your heart overgrow and reach the stars.

I have been thinking a lot lately about filters. Mainly our eyes and our views and how this filters which images we capture. How we see the world. How I see flowers.

I find the two above photos of flowers resonating.

EMILY THOMPSON FLOWERS / The Garden Edit

There is an inherent generosity to floristry that is also very present here despite all the hard edge we’ve been talking about. Flowers are a gift. The garden in front of the shop is a gift to our neighbours and a gift to the passers-by. Even this store is a gift. Obviously receiving our flowers is a gift! But it’s a gift to all of us that get to work in this context. There is an effort towards some kind of purity in our work, an aesthetic purity more than anything.

Especially what people expect when they receive flowers - this sort of trained in-the-box view of what flowers 'should' be as determined by whom exactly?  I know that there is a shift in the paradigm of the flower world that is slowly but surely happening and I want to be at the forefront of it. BOOK STAND, my favorite art book stand, needs a little help (and love) for an avant-garde documentary that they are shooting. It will capture artists and creatives thoughts on processes, work and books as the film travels around the world to interview and film. I already want to see this, don't you? Let's make it happen!

We got to work on the dreamiest wedding last weekend up in Santa Ynez. Have you been to SY before? It is such a picturesque place to visit, very special, with giant oak trees and meadows and old barns that happen to still stand to hold celebrations such as the one we experienced last weekend. There was so much love and so much magic in the air!
