35mm, no retouching/digital alterations have been done

... and since I'm going through so many photos for my website I found these too. All 35mm shot on my Canon F-1 from our recent trip to Tulum. I have a nice post coming up about that trip too (the flora there alone could seriously take up a lot of space)! Until then, let me know what you think about these. 

* I was pretty stoked about the light leak in my camera that allowed for the first 2 shots--pleasant little surprise when I got my developed film back!

Oyster Magazine

so game of thrones no?

Sometimes I get commissioned to do really wonderful, fun, creative work that I enjoy so, so, so much but I can't always share it on my blog right away. Especially with work done for magazines. These are floral coronets that I made for Oyster Magazine way back last winter. I really enjoy this kind of work--artistry involving my hands, my flowers and plant materials. It is meditation for me once I get into my own world (aka my head) to create. I am given a lot of creative liberty too which is really nice. Usually I'm given a color palette and texture samples and a request almost always comes accompanied with a couple of photos for the mood and the rest is up to me. This is such an ideal way to work. I had actually forgotten about these photos and am going through all my photos for my new website that I am putting together (more on that soon I promise) and I chanced upon these and was so super happy to get to share them with you!

Flora goddess of spring season + flowers

Happy May Day friends! What a nice segue for both my absence but too for May. Historically it was a Celtic pagan festival that spread to northern Europe and then to England and America. May Day in towns and villages of older Europe represented fertility in soil, livestock, and people. It was a day where farmers and laborers could rest from work and for townspeople to rejoice in village fêtes and gatherings! A day for others to celebrate Flora, goddess of springtime and flowers (Roman Catholics revered Mary). May baskets filled with sweets and flowers would be left on neighbors' steps. Dancing, floral crowns and ribbons danced around maypoles weaving beautiful patterns all the way down to the ground. Makes me wish our courtyard had a maypole. Flowers--linked with so much symbolism, story telling, folklore, and celebrations. They represent awakening! So here's to May!
