MOTHER'S DAY WILD ROSES

I have been incredibly inspired by roses as of late. Not your tightly-budded straight stem rose, but her cousin, the wild rose. She grows curvy and free and has so many more thorns to pick. But she is so worth it. Her soft petals, her colors, her spell...

So for Mother's Day this year I am crafting special wild rose bouquets! They are exquisite. I will be selling them at COOKBOOK Market in Echo Park!

Sat + Sun    05/13 + 05/14

A Wedding Ceremony

Very recent flowers for a special couple celebrating their love. It was a beautiful blend of plants and wildflowers, with magic in the air. Thank you Amelia + Julian! Wishing you the stars.

(Major thanks and gratitude for Alana, my flower maven and right hand woman. She never ceases to amaze me...)

I have been thinking a lot lately about filters. Mainly our eyes and our views and how this filters which images we capture. How we see the world. How I see flowers.

I find the two above photos of flowers resonating.

(If you recognize these images and know the photographers please do let me know - clearly I grabbed these while in a late-night internet vortex...)

Flowers by Louesa Roebuck
Happy Sunday!

A brilliant floral moment as created by Louesa Roebuck (yes, an inspiration and hero of mine in the natural world)! The dried with the fresh!

What is informing your work these days, dear reader?

EMILY THOMPSON FLOWERS / The Garden Edit

There is an inherent generosity to floristry that is also very present here despite all the hard edge we’ve been talking about. Flowers are a gift. The garden in front of the shop is a gift to our neighbours and a gift to the passers-by. Even this store is a gift. Obviously receiving our flowers is a gift! But it’s a gift to all of us that get to work in this context. There is an effort towards some kind of purity in our work, an aesthetic purity more than anything.
-Emily Thompson for The Garden Edit

Take a moment to read what the very savvy, well-spoken and wonderful Emily Thompson has to say in regards to flowers in this triumphant article! I AGREE WITH IT ALL. Especially what people expect when they receive flowers - this sort of trained in-the-box view of what flowers 'should' be as determined by whom exactly?  I know that there is a shift in the paradigm of the flower world that is slowly but surely happening and I want to be at the forefront of it. Bravo Emily and team!

Every once in a while, TIGERS to LILIES will do a wedding. This wedding still holds so much warm beauty, natural elegance and magic for me when I look through the photos.

A few shots from an installation we did over at En Soie. We created a curtain out of pressed petals to unveil their SS15 collection! It was so much fun and a lot of work, but extremely gratifying to create such a massive piece with our hands. It felt substantial too. Even though our materials were extremely light, it had a really wonderful weight to it.

I have to say it was nice getting to put some of my pressed petals to good use too. Have I mentioned that I have books and books filled with so many pressed petals in between them. Patient little jewels  waiting to be seen...

Flowers for a Japanese Ceremony

This past Sunday I was asked to create some flowers for a very special Japanese wedding ceremony. I think that you know that I do not do weddings often. Every once in a while though something incredibly special comes my way. This was for my friend and collaborator, Kumiko. I was honored to be able to contribute to her special day with some wildflower creations. Kumiko was truly one radiant bride, full of bursting happiness and grace.

Thank you Kumiko + Chikara. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, health and love.
