photo by David Black / wildflowers by TIGERS to LILIES

Hi friends. It's been a long while, I know. I have been up to a lot this last month and a half and it has been work that has kept me away from the computer. Bigger fish (!) + a new studio (!!) + lots of photography (!!!) + a ton of wildflowers and plants and a bit of camping in between.

Have you been busy? How is your summer going?  Let me know. Here's to a bright July!

Sowing Seeds in the Desert

all three above images taken from Anna Scwalbe's magnificent book, Wiese

I'm reading a nature masterpiece written by the late Masanobu Fukuoka called Sowing Seeds in the Desert. I couldn't help but share this next pasage with you: I was so moved by it.

I spent many years of my youth foolishly searching for something I "should" have been doing. Instead, I should have entrusted everything to the flowers blooming in the meadow. Even if people do nothing at all, the grasses and trees and the songbirds will live on.
I have finally learned that, although nature does not reach out to people directly, people can always approach nature and seek salvation that way."
-M. Fukuoka

What do you think? Take a moment. Feel what that does to your heart. Can you relate?

Found this image off Cheri's Scout Holiday site from when she visited the L'art du Jardin expo in Paris. How lovely it must have smelled in the Grand Palais filled with all these plants and flowers and trees, right! I can always count on Cheri to be in the most of magical of places.

Happy Saturday to you!

When Lilies Turn into Tigers

written and drawn by walter crane
When lilies, turned to Tigers,
blaze
Amid the garden's
tangled maze

Exactly what I am feeling right now.
This transformation, transition, has taken fire and there is no stopping it now.
I'm on board!

Courtney Reagor

I see work from artist such as Courtney Reagor and it just makes me feel like there is so much creativity out there, so much good stuff. This is work she did for the storefront of JF + Son in NY back in 2011. Of course I'm drawn to the plants but there is so much more going on. Still life's + fashion + art. I totally dig it. Check out her site and see for yourself.

Looks like we're headed into a very hot weekend here in Los Angeles. Last year, the day after our ceremony, we had a lazy brunch by the lake and ate all of our wedding leftovers & drank rose & shared day-after-wedding laughs and stories with friends and family. It was pretty hot out that day and I decided to get all my friends in the lake! It took some convincing because my uncle had a fish with insane scary jaws on his fireplace mantle that he had fished from the exact lake that I wanted everybody to get it! Some of my city friends had never jumped into a lake in the middle of a forest before. So, Elijah and I took the first jump, and much to my delight, everyone followed soon after! It was the best swim I have ever shared with friends! More here.

*side-note: I did check with my uncle first to make sure that the scary fireplace mantle fish wasn't aggressive and that there wouldn't be anything that would bite before we all went in. He let out a huge gregarious laugh before reassuring me that no, it wasn't dangerous to swim in the lake.
