The Standard Plant-scription

 

The Standard Hotel, Hollywood has had a plant-scription with me for almost a year now, and to this day it is one of my very favorite places to bring plants to! Their plant-scription consists of me bringing in plants that A) will last B) enhance the environment and C) are design appropriate for the Standard's keen aesthetic. Once all the plants are installed, I come in and water, administer vitamins (if needed) and make sure that everyone is thriving and happy. It's very satisfying to see my green friends not only live but thrive in this environment! I even brought a baby pineapple to maturity indoors! 

This week we included plants for their iconic pool. I worked closely with their design director to make sure that the plants out by the pool would look different than the usual suspects. We chose ones that resembled underwater sea-life, like corals and anemones. Immediately they were all very well received. Thus, the clients are happy, The Standard is happy, my green friends are happy, and I am (extremely) happy!

The Standard gives us a lot of love and we want to extend that to you. We're having a night-swimming party with a very special tea and our new Ikebana-inspired installation to share with you!

lono sweet shop's shaved ice--the best!

I really love The Standard Hotel, Hollywood. They have given me nothing but a lot of good vibes and work that is FUN! Last week I finished a plant installation in their diner and transformed the space. They also have signed up for a plantscription where I come in weekly to provide the diner with fresh flowers and herbs. It really makes the space come alive. I have to say that I think it is the prettiest diner in LA. Doesn't hurt that they feed me Lono's Sweet Shop shaved ice too! Just when I was thinking that summer couldn't get any cooler.

Do you remember back in April when they featured Plants: Our Silent Guardians as their one-month installation? So cool.

 

Symbiosis of Plants + Milk

I'm still a bit in disbelief as to how quickly this month has flown! This is the last week for Plants: Our Silent Guardians installation and also the last week for BOOK STAND Pop-Up at The Standard, Hollywood. For those of you dears that attended our opening ceremony, came to our workshops, stopped by to say hi and have a look, I thank you.

Herbal and Mineral Pouch Workshop!

Artist and dear friend Lauren Spencer King is holding a workshop at BOOKSTAND as part of the Plants: Our Silent Guardians installation this month at The Standard! This is going to be a really lovely evening where Lauren will guide the class as we sip on homemade chai tea + snack on homemade rosemary infused chocolate w/ Himalayan sea salt and listen to Velvet Underground! Such a treat I hope that I see you there and should we be sitting next to each other please say hi. See you there!

I know that I still have a ton to share with you about my installation for The Standard, Hollywood. Let me begin as simply as possible. These are the postcards that I designed & photographed for guests + visitors. I like them.

PLANTS: OUR SILENT GUARDIANS

I am sooo excited to share this with you today and to invite you to come out next Thursday, March 21st for our opening ceremony to help us celebrate the TIGERS TO LILIES installation + collaboration: PLANTS: OUR SILENT GUARDIANS! 

I have been asked to be the artist-in-residence for one month at The Standard Hollywood and I sincerely couldn't be more honored or psyched! As is my nature I knew that I wanted to collaborate with my friends: the amazing artists Lauren Spencer King + Claire Cottrell! Together the three of us have come up with what I can confidently say will be a staggeringly beautiful installation with of course a lot of wild and a lot of depth. You. Have. To. Come!

Furthermore, just to sprinkle all this goodness with even more fun, Claire's BOOKSTAND will have a physical space in the hotel lobby as a pop-up for the duration of the installation 3/21 - 4/21! If you know anything about Claire you know that this will be a most special space with such treasures to read, workshops to attend and lectures to be heard all while sipping on herb-infused refreshments + snacks. So seriously, how exciting is Spring looking? I'll do my best to give you as much info about all of this as it unfolds, OK?
