Kokedama: String Garden

I made some really sweet kokedama's this weekend to sell at Shelter Half. If you have a small apartment or want an easy-to-take-care of lil' plant friend or simply love moss, you need one! Hang one from your window (preferably not full sun all day) and watch your space get a little dose of magic. Go and get yours (or email me about an upcoming workshop to make your own)!

Alexander Calder remains to be one of my most favorite artist. He invented the mobile as accepted art and put it on the map way back in the day and his creations have inspired so much of what has transcended to this very day. I couldn't help but notice that the silver dollar eucalyptus that I brought home reminded me of him and his mobiles. Even more when I placed them with just a few anemones, the whole arrangement looked so delicate and airy and very modern. An ephemeral, grounded mobile. Pay attention to the shape of not only flowers and their petals but to leaves as well. You might be pleasantly surprised too.

Hanging Nature Mobile

1.) Have some sticks & yarn?

2.) And some treasures found on the beach, forest, hike, etc...

3.) Then gather some fishing line (I used 10 lb.), scissors,
some work space and get ready to make a mobile!

4.) String shells, tie feathers and branches and assemble
everything together so that your mobile is balanced...

5.) ...and voila! you have a beautiful, organic,
nature-inspired mobile projecting pretty shadows
against the walls and ceiling!
