Such a special way to commence this new year with one of artist/illustrator Amelia Giller's drawings for TIGERS to LILIES! I am so honored. The life cycle of an anemone, from sprout to it's last petal. This is a very special piece for me because it marks the beginning of something that I have wanted to do for a very long time: have seasonal postcards with different creatives showing me (you) what flowers/nature represents for them. I ask the question FLOWERS ARE...and they fill in the rest. They will be printed on 100% cotton cards and will have a limited run.

Happy New Year dear readers and friends! Thank you for being so patient and supportive this past year. I am always so touched with your kind words and time. May this year be a healthy, wild, and loving year for you. May the wildflowers of your heart overgrow and reach the stars.

We got to work on the dreamiest wedding last weekend up in Santa Ynez. Have you been to SY before? It is such a picturesque place to visit, very special, with giant oak trees and meadows and old barns that happen to still stand to hold celebrations such as the one we experienced last weekend. There was so much love and so much magic in the air!

A few outtakes from a wedding ceremony that was held in a rather dusty hillside. The marigolds were key in making a statement. Well, the marigolds and that electric pink tapestry that made the walkway! I especially liked that for this ceremony we made a floral crown for the groom (above modeled by Elijah). It was a sincere gesture for a rather shy groom and really made a quiet but radiant statement. 

Per usual, couldn't have done it without the help of my lovely and skilled flower child assistant Jessica and the all around brilliant Elijah.

If you're in Paris this week you must go to this! I so wish that I could. I have just discovered Rosemarie Auberson's beautiful collages and artwork through my dear friend Cheri Messerli. To see this in person will surely be a capticating and lifting experience.

Happy May Day!

Flora goddess of spring season + flowers

Happy May Day friends! What a nice segue for both my absence but too for May. Historically it was a Celtic pagan festival that spread to northern Europe and then to England and America. May Day in towns and villages of older Europe represented fertility in soil, livestock, and people. It was a day where farmers and laborers could rest from work and for townspeople to rejoice in village fêtes and gatherings! A day for others to celebrate Flora, goddess of springtime and flowers (Roman Catholics revered Mary). May baskets filled with sweets and flowers would be left on neighbors' steps. Dancing, floral crowns and ribbons danced around maypoles weaving beautiful patterns all the way down to the ground. Makes me wish our courtyard had a maypole. Flowers--linked with so much symbolism, story telling, folklore, and celebrations. They represent awakening! So here's to May!
