me at 28 weeks, photo by David Black

It's time I share with you some really, really magical and big news. Elijah and I are getting ready to welcome our newest member to the family. It has been everything I could ever imagine and all things I have never imagined! Such a miracle the beginning of life. Truly. It is bit overwhelming to write about and so I will leave you with this image that friend and photographer David Black took last week while I was working with flowers for him...

thank you so kindly David for all the light + this beautiful moment captured  xx

Michael A. Muller / Threading in the Choirs

I so rarely like to be photographed, let alone a close-up. I really do enjoy being the one behind the lens. However, my good friend Michael A. Muller took a few shots that I happen to think capture me

More importantly, check out Michael's beautiful eye and excellent playlists on his site Threading in the Choirs. He is one of my absolute favs - a constant source of inspiration. His photographs really speak from the heart. It's as though he captures the feeling of the moment through his lens. Shoots straight from the heart, you can feel it. You'll recognize his work too - he is quite busy shooting for every publication under the sky.

Cheers to you Michael A. Muller - keep the good vibes flowin!
(and thank you for the wodnerful pics)

FLOWER MAN / Ken Hermann

Aren't these images lovely? My friend Michael passed these Ken Hermann photos along my way this morning and I found them refreshing and delightful! In other words, I had to share them with you! The rest of his body of work on his site is quite stellar too. Enjoy!

*thank you so much Michael

Diana Scherer / Nurture Studies

top four from Nurture Studies / next two from Flowerfield / last image from Bunch

Very excited to share Diana Scherer's work with you. She's an artist / photographer / collector and her work and process is one that I appreciate and admire greatly. The above photos are of wildflowers and weeds grown from seed and taken from her garden (love this) in the Netherlands and patiently manipulated, sometimes for up to six months, in vases so that the soil and roots are coerced to take the shape of the vessel. When the moment is right, she breaks the vases and 'captures' her pieces. Thus, collecting the fleeting moment of a bloom in it's prime before it fades and dies. After shooting it she puts it back in her garden (again, I so appreciate this entire process). 'That Scherer has tended and reworked the root system before releasing the plant back to let nature run its own course, once again echoes the cyclical aspects of nature, of life and death, and of regeneration and degeneration.'

“The ambiguous nature of collecting intrigues me,” she says. “It involves loving attention as well as a fanatical desire to control. The collector documents and stores the object of his desire in a systematic and detached way. I also treat and present my work in an objective manner, even though working with nature has an emotional charge for me.”  - D. Scherer

Field Art from Wilder Quarterly

Friends! You know what a big lover and admirer I am of Wilder Quarterly (I am fairly certain that you too are such grand fans)! Well they are having a really inspiring kickstarter project to create artist residencies in different cities all in the name of nature and art. After my own heart! Please take a moment to have a look at what they are trying to set free into the universe and give a buck or two? C'mon, when do I ever ask this of you? So excited for this! ;)

Camille Henrot

I am quite enamored with Camille Henrot's elegant work, especially so with her ikebana installation. Flowers and plant materials elevated through the viewers experience. Stunning, stunning work.

You Are A Circle

"This may sound like a cliché, but remember: If there are no opportunities around you, create them.
Ask yourself:
How can I help them?
How can I surprise them?
How can I create smiles on their faces?"

-excerpt from Guillaume Wolf's
that I am enjoying so much.

Johnny Loves June (So Much)

Browsing through my dear friend and artist Lauren Spencer King's lovely cosmos, I came across this and I have read and re-read it all day. It's so moving, so heartfelt, so real. The story between June Carter and Johnny Cash is one of my most coveted tales of love. And then I got lost on the site where Lauren gathered these letters: Letters of Note. I just read and read and kept on reading during downtime at work today. Soooooo good. Go on and pay it a visit! And do take a moment to read the letter that Henry Miller wrote to Anaïs Nin! Oooh. My. God!

(Sometimes I am so reluctant to spend too much time on the computer, and then on days like to today, where I find such letters, dare I say I am super grateful for the interweb and it's endless avenues of information).

Nothing to do with flowers, everything to do with life.
Thanks so much Lauren xx

St. Valentine's Day Pop-Up

A really big and heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up! It was a busy, busy day but I felt extremely grateful: to Marta & Robert of Cookbook for letting me use their beautiful space, to Shelter Half for granting me their grand scale space, to artist Lauren Spencer King for her winsome handmade cards, to artist Cheri Messerli for her bewitching marbleized papers, to Ben Medansky for his one-of-a-kind hand thrown ceramics and porcelains, and to each and every one of you who stopped by and gave me love from far and wide.

I read that 'flowers trigger emotions of happiness.' How very true. Really then, what could be better?

Check out the rest here

I thought that maybe you too would enjoy these baby's breath hanging balls as much as I did. I actually really like baby's breath but it always seems to make itself into my least favorite kind of arrangements. I think it's fine just on it's own! If you ever see Mexican baby's breath grab some too--it is really airy and beautiful all on it's own as well.

Learn to make your own here and do take some time to go through the coveted Gardenista; there is a plethora of inspiration just waiting for you to discover! I am always awe-inspired and really enjoy spending time on it. Thank you Alexa for this wonderful post!

Cortez

I am really so excited and honored with my newest wildflower account: Cortez! Everything in the space is already so beautifully curated (including the beautiful Sam Gore vases I get to use) by owners Marta Teegan and Robert Stelzner that it makes is absolutely divine to float in there and add some finishing touches.

Have you eaten there yet? Go! It's absolutely stellar. I find myself lingering after the flowers are done to have a coffee and appreciate all the beauty around me.

Thank you so much Marta + Robert!
