Everyday Beauty

I found these beauties while walking my dog V.V. Pretty darn pretty.

Hanging Nature Mobile

1.) Have some sticks & yarn?

2.) And some treasures found on the beach, forest, hike, etc...

3.) Then gather some fishing line (I used 10 lb.), scissors,
some work space and get ready to make a mobile!

4.) String shells, tie feathers and branches and assemble
everything together so that your mobile is balanced...

5.) ...and voila! you have a beautiful, organic,
nature-inspired mobile projecting pretty shadows
against the walls and ceiling!

Up next, a hanging plant mobile...

*I know some of you might think I'm showing off here, but I guarantee you that I am indeed not! Anyone can do this, and I encourage you to try! If you get stuck, post your question and/or email me! :)

70's Inspiration

My awesome friend cheri sent me a link that sent me on an eye-escapade that lasted for waaay too long today! Note how happy plants just make a space. I've definitely stored the image of the hanging succulents for use at a later time*

Moon in June Press

You know the saying all good things in life take time, well it couldn't be more true for my dear friend and artist Jamie Russom. She's patiently waited about 5 years for everything to line up so that she could finally have her own letterpress company, Moon in June Press! Not only did she open shop with a wonderful little design/print studio in Long Beach, but she immediately hit the pavement running and with the collaboration of another very talented artist, Sudeshna Pantham, delicately brought forth this beautiful calendar. Not only is this a work of art, but the idea behind this calendar is brilliant and quite unusual! Each are original because no press ever really comes out exactly like the one before it. I'm putting in my order for one today!

The Fashions of Flowers

Browsing through an old issue of Domino Magazine (i miss you) I came upon this editorial of passing trends and flowers. I love the mod daisies and elegant yet dramatic statement of the calla lilies on the art deco page!

I'm currently researching plants/flowers for a yoga studio in downtown L.A. that I was asked to work some arrangements for (pictures to come soon). The ceilings are about 20ft. high and we have a lot of pipes to hang plants from. I'd like to keep it simple , organic and in tune with the environment, much like the above pictures are in congruent with their environments. Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed! Or if you know of a peaceful space that I could reference, please share!

I hope you are having a great week so far*

Mini Terrariums

Check out these wonderful teeny terrariums by Tortoise Loves Donkey! Saw these on Design *Sponge and it put a pretty big smile on my face. I went on their etsy site and ended up buying an air plant for $4! A little plant present in the mail can put a smile on just about anybody's face.

And if you yourself find a bunch of bottles laying around and you too want to make your own, this is for you.

AND if you have no plans this Saturday and are in the vicinity of San Juan Capistrano (you never know!) then stop by and check out the Ecology Center's awesome farm and terrarium workshop! Or simply stop by and say hi to Evan. Either way, you're in for a treat.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

How very exciting! 2010 is here and even though you really can have a clean slate at any point in time, there is something a bit more official-feeling about the new day of a brand new year! You can almost hear a collective sigh of relief in the air, and at least for a little bit it feels like everyone will be the best they can be. Instead of a huge list of resolutions sitting on my shoulders, I have decided to keep it uncomplicated for 2010:
1.) keep it simple
2.) take every moment for what it is
3.) yoga & meditation

Here's to a a very grand new year! HAPPY 2010!
